Ningwu is the largest ice cave discovered in China, located in Luyashan Mountain, Shanxi Province. Inside the cave is an impressive scene, made up of thick layers of ice, white columns and stalactites stretching from the ceiling to the floor. This scene reminds many people of the ice cave of Princess Elsa, in the famous Disney cartoon Frozen. The cave is thought to have formed in the ice age, about 3 million years ago

Scientists at the China Institute of Geosciences said that the cave always keeps the air cold thanks to the ki-like structure in the bowling game. Like a trap, in winter, cold air flows inwards, thickens and settles down, hot air overflows and escapes by convection. Ice is inside the cave as well as a lining to help stabilize the temperature. In 2005, the cave was recognized as a national park and opened to welcome visitors in the summer, from May to October.
