Pangong Tso, a lake stretching across the border of the two countries, is famous for its ability to change color according to the sun, in different times.

Pangong is an endorheic lake (the lake does not flow to the sea), located at an altitude of 4,350 m in the Himalayas. The lake is about 135 km long and is divided by the Actual Control Line (LAC) of China - India. About one third of the lake is in the Ladakh region and the other two thirds are in Tibet. This is also the site of the clash on the two countries' border in mid-June, arguably the bloodiest in 45 years

The most popular route to Lake Pangong Tso is from Leh, the capital of Ladakh located east of Jammu and Kashmir. On a distance of about 150 km, visitors will pass through the Changla Pass, the third highest motorcycle road in the world (more than 5,300 meters above sea level) So there is usually snow all year round.

Pangong with its swampy areas, numerous shrubs and perennial herbs is a haven for migratory birds Throughout the year, many birds come here to breed.

On the way, about 25 km from the lake, visitors will encounter stop signs to observe the Marmot species, a rare endemic animal.

The name Pangong is taken from Banggong Co in Tibetan, meaning high grassland lake. The area west of the reservoir is saltwater and the area to the east is fresh water. This is one of the few saltwater lakes in the world to freeze completely in winter.
Contrary to the arid brown surrounding mountains, the lake water is always blue. Pangong is one of the most popular destinations in India and Tibet. Ho also appeared in a scene of the blockbuster Bollywood movie Three Fools.

Camping overnight is one of the best experiences to try in Pangong Lake. When night falls, the space around the Himalaya becomes quiet. Out of the tent, visitors can easily observe the galaxy in the clear sky, because there is no light pollution.
Located at a high altitude, this place has a change and a clear heat difference between day and night. Campers need to bring walking shoes; windproof and waterproof pants and outerwear. Also included are sweaters, hats, gloves, warm socks, a backpack, first aid kit and flashlight.

Pangong Tso Lake is located in a disputed area between China and India. Therefore, visitors here need an inline permit (ILP) at the TIC office, located at the main Leh market. Each visitor will be charged INR 400 (125,000 VND) environmental fee. From Indian cities, guests can reach Leh via Reach Leh airport or the Jammu Tawi railway. The lake is about 150 km from Leh, equivalent to 4 hours by car.
