Amazake is a fermented rice drink from Japan, invented in the Kofun period (from 250 to 538). People boil rice, water and koji (a type of mycelium used in fermentation) for 8 to 10 hours. This drink has a sweet taste and is believed to have many nutrients, good bacteria for the intestines, helps to grow hair quickly, relieve alcohol, easily sleep .

During the Edo period (1603-1868), the Japanese used to drink amazake in the summer to cool off.
The amazake sellers are also considered an indispensable part of the summer here. Besides, it is also an essential food for the people and managed by the government for only a few yen.
This drink is also an energy drink for mountain climbers. One of the oldest teahouses serving traditional amazake is the Amazake Chaya in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture. Opened in 1600, it was one of the last remaining teahouses of the old Tokaido Road - which used to be the main route between Kyoto and Edo (present-day Tokyo). With a thatched roof and furnishings filled with an Edo period atmosphere, the teahouse offers a feeling of relaxation and comfort. Each specialty amazake here costs 400 yen (about 85,000 VND)
