Saudi Arabia opens its doors to visitors for the first time
From September 28, Saudi Arabia started to issue visas to tourists. This is the first time that the Islamic nation has opened its doors to foreigners. Previously, Saudi Arabia only allowed visitors to work for business purposes, Muslims pilgrimages to Mecca and Medina, permanent workers.
The recommended tourist sites to visit are the port city of Jeddah, the archaeological site of Mada’in Saleh, Al-ahsa, the largest oasis in the world
This new policy is applicable to 49 countries and territories.
Visitors can apply for multiple entry visas, stay for 90 days. Visa fee is about 117 USD, including health insurance. However, foreign visitors are still not allowed to visit sacred Muslim sites such as Mecca or Medina.The government requires visitors to dress seriously, to avoid costumes with slogan and bad meanings. Men are not allowed to wear shorts or tank tops. Women do not need someone who dares to protect or wear aba (full-length black robe) like before but must wear it seriously. Alcohol is still prohibited for sale and it is illegal for visitors to bring alcohol or drugs
