During the trip lasting three days and two nights, Lan Huong (Hanoi) had memorable experiences in two ancient towns, with two completely different nuances of Hunan province (China).
During my first trip to Hunan Province in winter 2018, the snow-white scenery covering the stone streets of the ancient Phoenix made me fall in love with this land. So at the end of May, I decided to return here to search for familiar but new emotions in the summer.

Instead of traveling by train like the previous trip, this time I chose a direct flight to Zhangjiajie. We arrived at 23:00 local time, the city fell asleep, the shops also began to clean and close So the group returned to the hotel to rest and prepare for tomorrow.




The first day, after waking up and having a meal at the hotel, the group starts the trip at 8:30 am. The first destination is the ancient town Phu Dung, located about 100 km southwest of Truong Gia Gioi city.
Phu Dung is an ancient town with a history of more than 2,000 years in Vinh Thuan district, belonging to the autonomous region of the Tho Gia and Mieu ethnic groups. The town is built next to a waterfall in the high mountains of China, so sightseeing here is mostly about walking.
When our group arrived, the sun was already high and it was quite hot. From the main gate, we started walking along the rocky roads into the town. Different from winter, Phu Dung town is quite deserted in the summer, the space is also quieter The path here is quite narrow, paved with stone, along the two sides are ancient wooden houses and local stalls.



According to the concept of the Turks, yellow and red are the colors symbolizing prosperity, so each house hangs a pumpkin on the porch.

After taking pictures at Trau Khau co-standing and worshiping the road, we followed Vuong Kieu Bridge, a bridge over the stream that was previously reserved for the Tho Vuong, to enter the old town. Arriving at the destination, the mild scent of the dishes spread in the air, making the whole group hungry. So, before coming to the Tho Vuong house, we stopped at a restaurant, which has a panoramic view of the town, dine and listened to the murmur of the stream. Our choice is a rice noodle, cooked with spicy broth and a glass of local bean milk. The price of the meal is 25 yuan, more than 80,000 dong.




Saying goodbye to Phu Dung, the group went against the rocky road beside the stream, where people often caught small aquatic species as well as preliminary processing duck meat. Returning to Bai Thu Duong, we were fortunate to see the folk dance and singing performances of the local theater troupe.
When it was sunny, we got back in the car early to go to the old town of Phuong Hoang. When the Da Giang stream appeared sparkling in the late afternoon sun, the old town of Phuong Hoang was still crowded with people passing by. The group went to Da Nhay Bridge, the bridge that was photographed the most when coming to this town. At the end of May, when the river water rises, the tourist attraction becomes quite dangerous. Standing from a distance, the bridge seemed to disappear in the water, the passersby on it seemed to be walking on the river.

Going on the opposite side of the old town, we invite each other to try the dishes of the old town before returning to the hotel. The food here looks beautiful, the taste is strange, the aroma of spicy chili is not suitable for all diners. For me, the best dishes are fried sausage, rotten tofu, and jumper.
In the evening, after having a meal at the hotel, we go back to the old town to enjoy the night view. The price of a taxi to travel from the hotel to the Hong Kieu Bridge is 15 yuan (52,000 VND). Contrary to the ancient and peaceful during the day, the old Phuong Hoang town is bustling at night with the cafes and bars along the river. To escape the crowds, I crept down the stone path deep into the old town, where there were many local shops.



Here, I bought sesame candy, moon cake and sausage, the typical dishes of this place.
On the second day, I walked to the ancient Phuong Hoang town when the sun was just dawn, the weather was clear and chilly now. Crossing the Hongqiao Bridge, I was immediately attracted to the steaming dumpling shop on the side of the road. Each small cake is placed on the tray of steaming, hot in the smoke. When eaten, the sweet taste of rice flour and the spicy taste of the meat. Each tray costs 10 yuan (35,000 VND) with about 7 small cakes. In addition to the cake, I bought another cup of red bean milk tea for a warm breakfast.
All morning, I go for a walk and take pictures in the old town, gazing silently at the wooden boats floating by the river, watching street corners with umbrellas and lanterns.
