This well is located on the edge of a small corn field, northwest of the main staircase of El Castillo, the famous central pyramid in Chichen Itza, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

During the decades of exploring the cenotes, archaeologists realized that the Mayans saw this place as a doorway to the world of Chaak, the god who bestowed the rain Inside the well, the walls form a giant dome, tree roots pierce the rock to absorb water and stalactites shine in the sun's rays.

When the sun reaches its peak, a beam of light falls straight into the water. At the bottom of the well, surviving objects to this day are broken pillars, a cheetah carvings and a statue that looks like a nearby warrior temple. This shows that this place used to be a sacred site. Photo: Twitter.
