The first day
Morning
To travel to Korea, start your Jeonju tour at Hanok Maeul (Hanok are traditional houses, Maeul means village).
This is the place with the most hanok in Korea with hundreds of houses and walls that make up dense alleys like mazes. Coming here, you will feel lost in a true ancient Korea, some of the hanok are still private houses but most of them now have been made inns, restaurants, shops or crafts. If you need a morning cup of coffee, you can go to any cafe as it is famous for its delicious latte.
At the heart of Maeul is the Gyeonggijeon temple built in 1410, holding a portrait of Yi Seong-gye - the founder of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. In addition, there are many small museums, one of them is a museum of traditional wine, there is an ancient painting to help you know the process of making traditional local wine. The best experience, however, is to walk in small, winding alleys.
Noon
Hotteok (pancakes)
At Hanok Maeul, it's not uncommon to see people on the street holding their snacks.
Over the past few years the village has become a center of street food. There are a few places with signature dishes like hotteok (pancakes) at Jeondong Hotteok (at 75 Eunhaeng-ro) or spicy pork sandwiches at Gilgeoriya (at 124 Gyeonggijeon-gil) and much more. Other dishes like meatballs, mandu (dumplings) or crispy squid that you can easily find in the village. After you've eaten, you can enjoy a few cups of tea at Gyodong Dawan (at 65-5 Eunhaeng-ro) in a quiet, peaceful space. There is a special kind of golden tea available here only for ancient kings.
If you want to look for local handicrafts like hanji - a traditional Korean paper made from strawberry flour, head to the Damiseam Handicraft Gallery (at 100-7 Hanji-gil where it sells handmade clothes are dyed with natural colorants).
Night
For Jeonju, makgeolli (a milk made from fermented rice) is a food, not a drink. Jeonju City has no less than 7 “makgeolli towns”, which are rows of bars with all versions of makgeolli.
One interesting way to serve these bars is that you pay for your drink for a large copper makgeolli pot and you will receive a free portion of your food. This is really fun when you go in large groups because the more you drink the warm makgeolli, the more food you will receive. Head to Yetchon Makgeolli (at 8 Jungsanjungang-ro), famous for Jeonju's best side dishes. Be ready to wait in line as the bars at Jeonju are always packed.
In addition, there are also many wonderful places in Hanok Maeul such as Seunggwangje, a guest house of the last king's grandson of the Joseon Dynasty. At Cho Ga Jib on the edge of the village, you can stay in a house with roofs that are over a hundred years old. These traditional motels are not too expensive but if you want to save more you can visit Carpe Diem, a motel located just outside Hanol Maneul.
Monday
Morning
Nambu Market Food Market.
If the drunkenness from makgeolli still follows you the next day then the best way is to have a bowl of kongnamul gukbap (bean sprouts and rice soup) at Hyundai-ok, a small stall inside Nambu market (63 Pungnammu 2-gil, Wansan -Style).
The ideal time to come here is around 9-10 am between breakfast and lunch when there is quite a few people, very suitable to explore the market. Look for the stairs to go up to the 2nd floor, where there are a few hippie cafes. There's also a popular night market here on Friday and Saturday evenings with more restaurants.
Noon
Climb up to Omokdae, a hillside pavilion, with views of the entire Hanok Maeul and the Jeonju skyline. Across the pedestrian bridge from the pavilion is another village in the city: Jaman Art Village is called "python face village.. .
