The Kazakhs are descended from Turkish, Mongolian, Indian and Hun indigenous groups. They reside on the territory between Siberia and the Black Sea. The pictures taken by Jimmy Nelson all introduce details of the jewelry, hairstyle, clothing, surroundings and cultural elements of that tribe. Jimmy said, his job is to make sure that the whole world will remember them and keep them in memory. Pictured is the Drokpas, with a population of about 2,500 people scattered in India and Pakistan. For centuries, the Drokpas have traditionally exchanged public kisses and freely loved and learned without being bound by the laws. Their cultural openness is partly shown through elaborate dresses and decorations.
Pictured is the Bana tribe, living in the Omo valley, south of Ethiopia. Their most important festival is Dimi, a moment that marks the girls' maturity.

They are famous for their custom of wearing wigs decorated with feathers. In addition to elaborate hats, people also paint their faces with bright tones such as red, yellow, and white. They believe that these are the colors that make them fierce and intimidate their enemies during a time of war. Nowadays, Huli men consider this as traditional clothing.
The Kaluli are scattered in the villages in the dense forests on the slopes of Mount Bosavi, Papua New Guinea. They live by fishing, hunting, and gathering. Each family has many generations living, sometimes up to 90 people.

Chad is home to the largest number of Wodaabe people. Even in harsh places, people always have a unique national pride expressed through their makeup.
The Asaro people live in Papua New Guinea. Legend has it that this tribe once had to flee their enemies and bury themselves in the Asaro River. Only when dusk falls, do they emerge from the sky and escape. Then, because their faces were buried in the mud for so long, the enemy saw them and assumed they were spirits, not fugitives. So to this day, the people of this tribe still keep the tradition of makeup and mud on their face, in order to survive and beautify.
