The name of this place is made up of two factors. In which, "i-ro-ha" is the first three characters in the 48-character alphabet of the previous Japanese; "Zaka" means "slope"
The pass is so named because it has 48 curves, which is also the number of words in the Japanese alphabet. Each bend is named with a corresponding letter
The first sections of the road were built in 1954 and 1965. Up to now, although the road has been modernized and widened, the number of bends remains the same. This is the only route that connects Nikko city with the Oku-nikko region. Photo: Japankuru.

Currently, the first Irohazaka road is a downward path with 28 curves with a stopover to watch the scenery of two waterfalls
