According to the abbot of the temple, this unusual tradition begins when a doctor comes to pray for a patient being treated for breast cancer. The doctor asked the monks if he could put a breast symbol here to hope the prayers would be done and had received approval.

This story spread, attracted attention, made people everywhere imitate.
People from all over the country and abroad started coming to the temple to pray for their mothers, wives, sisters and daughters.
The prayers are not only for breast cancer, but also for the health of women, for a safe pregnancy for her wife, for her daughter not to get sick, and even for her more milk to feed your baby.

Not only that, Jison-in is also a temple with historical value of Japan. Jison-in Temple was established by Kobo Daishi (Khong Hai Dai Su) as a gateway to the sacred Koya mountain in the early 9th century.

Mount Koya used to be a place where women are forbidden. Only men and monks can enter the temples.
Legend has it that when Khong Hai Dai Su's mother visited her son, she was not allowed to go to the top of the mountain but only stopped at Jison-in Temple.
Today, Mount Koya is an attractive destination for Japanese tourists and Jison Shrine acts as a starting point of pilgrimage to the top of the sacred mountain.
