Historically, the world has four oceans, the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic Oceans. In 2000, the International Hydrological Organization (IHO) decided to create a new ocean, surrounding the least populated continent on Earth, the Southern Ocean (Southern Ice Ocean). This new ocean is 4th largest out of 5 oceans, wider than the Arctic Ocean.

Pacific and Atlantic meet at Cape Horn (Cape Horn) in southern Chile. To get to this place, you have to take a cruise ship departing from Ushuaia (Argentina) or Punta Arenas (Chile). Another way to see where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet is to climb Mount Barú volcano in Panama. This is also the highest mountain in Panama, more than 3350 meters. Barú is located on the Isthmus of Panama about 120 square kilometers wide, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. On a clear day, both of these oceans can be seen from the top of the mountain as well.
The Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet at the Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa. Unlike Horn Cape, Agulhas is easy to reach and many travel agencies regularly open tours to visit.



The most popular place for tourists to depart here is from Cape Town (South Africa).
