Located between Barden Tower and Bolton Monastery (Yorkshire, England) is one of nature's most dangerous pitfalls: Bolton Strid (Strid). This is a small stream, about 1.8m wide, picturesque. In 1998, Barry and Lynn Collett, the honeymoon couple, visited the site and is believed to have drowned in Bolton Strid.

One victim of Strid is a young man, William de Romilly, son of Princess Alice de Romilly. William tried to jump over Strid in 1154 and failed.



His mother was very saddened by the death of his child and donated all his property and surrounding land to found the Bolton Monastery. Its most recent victim was in March 2010, 8-year-old Aaron Page, who slipped and drowned on his birthday, while playing in the area. Some time later, the police were sent to the Wharfe River near the monastery to keep an eye on the residents. At that stretch of river, the authorities have put up warning signs, prohibiting people from bathing or diving because of danger.
In 2016, Bolton Strid once again attracted the attention of tourists around the world, when British YouTuber Tom Scott introduced it in his video titled: The most dangerous waters in the world. Scott also says there are many other deadly waters around the world, but Strid's easy-to-deceive appearance makes it incredibly dangerous. “In general, you can come here and see a small, seemingly harmless stream of water in the middle of the forest. You can jump over it, some people succeed.



But if you fail, the water will kill you, ”warned Scott.
