The strange coffin-making profession was initiated by a man named Seth Kane Kwei in the 1950s.



He used to build palanquin used to carry tribal leaders in every traditional festival. A leader orders Kwei to build a palanquin shaped like a cocoa fruit, but dies before the festival and is buried in it. Not long after, Kwei's wife passed away, she always wanted to travel but never got a chance. Kwei decides to give his wife a plane coffin so she can grant her last wish and travel in the afterlife.
