Isehiro is a restaurant serving yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) in Kyobashi, Chuo-ku, in the heart of the Japanese capital, just a 5-minute walk from Tokyo Station. The shop opened in 1921, (two years before the Kanto earthquake disaster), making it the oldest yakitori shop in Tokyo.

Isehiro's yakitori is considered to be delicious, the meat is sometimes overcooked, but overall the taste and appearance are attractive. The ingredients they used were sourced from many places around Tokyo. The shopkeeper only selects the best ingredients, such as the salt that must be obtained from the handmade salt maker in Shizuoka.
According to the author of Explore Old Tokyo, specializing in introducing places to eat and play in Tokyo, he went to the restaurant to order dinner and each skewer of yakitori was brought. The shop often gives customers a metal plate, instead of using chopsticks, to pull the chicken out of the skewer before eating. Diners should not eat chicken directly from skewers and can add a little sansho (Japanese pepper) or shichimi (a powder of 7 herbs that is very spicy)

Most of the yakitori on the menus are shaped like a dango cake, but are called Tsukune (chicken balls and chicken cartilage skewers).

Particularly at Isehiro, the chicken balls are sticking together, without a gap. The shop uses binchotan, a famous charcoal, to bring out the homogeneous flavor of baked goods. This is a type of charcoal from the Edo period (1603-1868), made from oak wood grown in Wakayama prefecture.
What attracts customers to the restaurant is not only because of the delicious food, reasonable price, long history but also because of curiosity, wanting to learn about the taste of famous director Ozu Yasujiro. It is said that he had a favorite seat in the bar. It was in a small tatami room where he could quietly enjoy a skewer of yakitori and left as quietly as he arrived. The period when he used to eat at Isehiro was in 1953.

Isehiro is open from 11:30 to 14:00 for lunch and 16:30 - 21:00 for dinner every day, and off on Sundays. The price of a lunch starts from 5,500 yen (1.1 million dong) and dinner starts from 8,000 yen (1.7 million dong). Thanks to its popularity today the shop has grown into a chain and has branches in many other places such as the New Otani Hotel, Ginza, and the Nihombashi district.
