Guoliang – A Village On 9 Heavens In China

Hidden atop 1,752 meters high mountain is Guoliang rock village. At the time, the Chinese government announced it would not invest in a path that costs millions of dollars just for 300 people to use it. Guoliang village is almost at risk of being forgotten, becoming an inhabited ghost village. Before that situation, 13 village workers decided to dig tunnels through Mount Taihang. It took them 5 years to complete a tunnel 1,250m long, 5m high and 4m wide, enough for two cars to avoid each other. Due to lack of experience in tunneling and using explosives, 5 people died during construction. However, on May 1, 1977, the tunnel was officially opened. Visitors who want to go to Guoliang should start from Tan Huong city (Henan), drive north of Huanyu Avenue (column S229) and continue 20 km to Huixian town.
