However, few people know that inspiration for such grand design can be found several hundred kilometers north of Delhi - Mausoleum of the Mughal emperor Humayun. . Humayun tomb - the inspiration of later Taj Mahal. Emperor Humayun was the son of the first Mughal emperor - Babur. He inherited the throne at the age of 23, when he was not aware of the position he holds He likes to immerse himself in the sharp fun and endlessly lasting wine parties in the harem.



This has led to a dispute between Humayun and his 3 younger brothers who intend to take over the kingdom. They colluded with a cunning Afghan aristocrat named Sher Shah, who attacked the king from the east and established the Sur dynasty on the Humayun territory. Humayun was besieged and forced to flee to Persia, where he lived in exile for 15 years. However, this was also the time when he approached the exquisite craftsmanship of the Safavid artists, the resting place of the king in exile for 15 years in foreign land. In 1556, with the support of Persia, Humayun returned to Delhi to regain the throne. Just six months after his return to the throne, he fell on the library stairs and passed away, ending a short reign. In honor of her deceased husband, Queen Hamida Baba Begum invited Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, architect from Herat city, northwestern Afghanistan, built the first garden house tomb in history The building is a mixture of Persian and Mughal elements, forming a template for Mughal architecture of successive generations, culminating in the Taj Mahal in 1648.



The large garden is divided into four areas, separated by surrounding moats. The 47 m high mausoleum consists of 2 floors, the top 8 m high dome is paved with white marble while the rest is built of red sandstone. The tomb is calculated according to strict rules in Islamic geometry with an emphasis on the number 8. Humayun's tomb is in the top "Most Beautiful Buildings in the World". This tomb took 7 years to build and was officially completed after 16 years since Humayun's death. However, the garden needed a large amount of money to maintain, plus the move of the Mughal capital from Delhi to Agra resulted in the mausoleum being abandoned and ruined. In 1947, thousands of refugees built camps inside the wall, making many parts of the architecture no longer intact. The turning point came to the Humayun tomb when UNESCO recognized this place as a Cultural Heritage world in 1993.



The mausoleum was also restored to its original status through the sponsorship of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture Foundation. In September 2013, after two centuries of being forgotten, the Humayun tomb opened its doors to visitors and once again put its name on the list of "World's Most Beautiful Buildings"..
