This has led to a dispute between Humayun and his 3 younger brothers who intend to take over the kingdom. They colluded with a cunning Afghan aristocrat named Sher Shah, who attacked the king from the east and established the Sur dynasty on the Humayun territory. Humayun was besieged and forced to flee to Persia, where he lived in exile for 15 years. However, this was also the time when he approached the exquisite craftsmanship of the Safavid artists, the resting place of the king in exile for 15 years in foreign land. In 1556, with the support of Persia, Humayun returned to Delhi to regain the throne. Just six months after his return to the throne, he fell on the library stairs and passed away, ending a short reign. The building is a mixture of Persian and Mughal elements, forming a template for Mughal architecture of successive generations, culminating in the Taj Mahal in 1648.
