They decided to build a new property together, when friends revealed that someone was renting out the pristine Restoration island nearly 26 hectares off the east coast of Australia. Not to miss the chance, the two go there and set up a makeshift shack on the beach, cherishing plans to build a 60-room luxury resort there.
Unable to bear the temporary life on the pristine island, without hot water, bath or air conditioner, David's girlfriend quickly returned to the city.
After his love fell rapidly, the middle-aged man reeled from a struggle with the local Aboriginal people who determined to stop him from building a new resort.
But each of David's dreams kept disappearing like shipwrecks in the ocean, and he was as alone as the only surviving passenger drifting into the desert. In 1997, David decided to leave everything behind, starting life as Robinson Crusoe in real life.
Life on Restoration Island was not so bad for David. Over the past two decades, he has upgraded his World War II outpost to a sturdy solar home with internet access.

“I don't need someone who just wants to go to the island for a vacation. But I'm not alone either, because I have a dog as a friend, ”David replied to the Sydney Morning Herald.
