Lovely Villages In Korea
Not a city with brightly colored lights, but a small village that reminds me of when I came to Korea.
Lovely villages you should visit during your Korean tour
"Santorini of Korea" is a lovely name that people give to the cultural village of Gamcheon in Busan. Standing at an elevated viewpoint, dropping a broad view below can understand why this village has such a name. Hundreds of colorful low-rise block houses flock across the sea-facing hillsides, just like a Lego puzzle.
However, Gamcheon is just a poor village, not a luxury tourist place like a "brother" in Europe
Tourists enjoy taking pictures with the "Lego houses"
Now, lines of Korean tourists still flock to Gamcheon every day to discover interesting secrets hidden in the small alleys.
Those are funny frescoes that suddenly appear in a certain curve: mischievous cats frolicking by the windowsill, two lizards crawling on the stairs leading up the slope or fish swarm "swimming "On the stone wall. They may also be installations of art depicting the daily lives of villagers and their well-deserved wishes. The joy is also when you are separated from the noisy crowd, sipping a cup of coffee in a pretty small corner and feeling like you are in the end of the world.
"Escape" from bustling Seoul, I took a bus to the old village of Jeonju located in the heart of the city of the same name and here, I see a very different Korea. That was Jeonju - peaceful dream. Completely alien to modern concrete lines, seven hundred traditional houses (called hanok) will remind you of the old lifestyle of the Korean people.
Hanoks are built from wood, soil, stone and natural materials
The curved edge of the roof (Cheoma) can also be adjusted in length to control the amount of sunlight entering the house. The beam structure is entirely made of wood and fits together without using a nail. Hanji paper, a traditional Korean paper, impregnated with soybean oil on the door frames, is waterproof and breathable.
Gentle sunset light shines on the old roofs
The old village is like a jewel that Jeonju carries within, where the reel of modern life is still untouchable. It is interesting to see Koreans who are still hustle and bustle on the trams now walk leisurely between old houses and breathe the calm air.
Traveling to Korea, going to Hanok Jeonju probably don't need a map because stepping on the paved road will push me to interesting perspectives of the village. I love Jeonju in the chilly early morning mist, in the yellow light sleepily late at night, or when the sunset from across the hill gently casts over the roofs below.
Jeondong Christian Church
And I will remember the peaceful sleep in that little cabin.
The space in the room is just enough to put two or three sets of blankets, mattresses, wooden cabinets and a few simple items. The windows and doors are slotted-style wood with black bronze hand-crafted bolts. Push the door and step out, you can see a quiet green garden. Modern recreational facilities are kept to a minimum so that "the guests spend more time resting, retaining and talking," explained the host.
Small log house where I had a good night's sleep
I hope the memories in Jeonju will always accompany you throughout life. As he said, the days in Jeonju have passed smoothly and every time I think about this place, my mind is drifting in a sweet dream.
