Naganeupseong – ‘mushroom Tree’ Village In South Korea

Naganeupseong Village, located in Jeollanam-do Province, South Korea, was built in 1937. Today it is still home to about 85 households in mushroom-like houses when viewed from above. In 2011, the village was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage, attracting quite a few visitors to visit.

The characteristic of Naganeupseong is that the houses are walled with thatched roofs tinged with time, people change their roof once a year. Besides, staying in homestay style hanok (Korean traditional house type) is a pretty good experience for visitors.
People still keep the old culture, the yard, the street is not cemented but still leave the ground and sweep the trash every day They still collect firewood for heating in winter instead of using a heater.



The scene here is very peaceful, separate from a modern, developed Korea.
Walking on the road, tourists easily meet village women in traditional costumes, making you feel like you will return to the old times.
