Located on the high mountains of the Himalayas, Makaibari was established in 1859 and is believed to be the oldest tea farm in Darjeeling, India. The farmer believes there is a mysterious connection between this tea and the celestial spirit in the sky, so they have to pick it right on the night of the full moon for the tea to be of top quality.



During the first full moon nights from mid-March to May (the period known as the "first tea batch"), when the tides in the oceans rise and the water in the trees is low, farmers believe that High levels of oxygen and energy in the air will cause the tea leaves to taste mellow.
This tea can only be harvested 4-5 times during the season. Before the harvest, hundreds of Makaibari farm workers dressed in West Bengal costumes gather on the mountainside, just after sunset. Men knock on drums, women dance and chant the Vedic sutras for good luck and moonlight protection. Onlookers lit long torches to illuminate tea pickers and ward off wild animals that did not come close.

People also believe that if the sun shines on the leaves, the flavor of the tea will change, so they have to harvest quickly at night to be processed before dawn.



Because it can only be harvested with limited production, Silver Tips Imperial tea is very expensive, 200 kg of fresh tea needs to be harvested to process 50 kg of finished tea.
According to the farm manager, Mr. Sanjay Das, the tea that is fermented halfway will have the flavor of mango and flowers, which has anti-aging effects. As soon as he took a sip of the bright yellow tea, the drinker felt energized.
