Every year, on the full moon of August, Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims go through difficult trips to Lake Gosaikunda, a miraculously beautiful lake in the Himalayas in Nepal.

For centuries, water and culture have intertwined, and this is evident in the Himalayas. Himalayan water is said to be "sacred" water because of its purity, and it sustains the lives of hundreds of millions of people living along riverbanks that run from mountains.
One such source of water is Gosaikunda Lake in Rasuwa of Nepal, located 4,380 meters above sea level

. Water from Lake Gosaikunda "feeds" one of the major rivers in the Gandaki basin, and is said to be "sacred" to both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindus claim that Shiva's deities were born here.
The lake is also a popular destination for hikers in Nepal, and is one of the high Ramsar wetlands It is located in Langtang National Park.




Every year in August the full moon during the Janai Purnima festival, thousands of Hindus and Buddhists make a pilgrimage to Lake Gosaikunda in search of "holy water". On the full moon of August, pilgrims bathe in the lake to purify their bodies and souls. They also put water from Gosaikunda Lake into their water bottles to take home. The holy water is taken to symbolize various cultural and religious activities in Nepal.
It takes a 2-3 day walk from Dhunche, the headquarters of the Rasuwa district, to reach Lake Gosaikunda. Pilgrims of different ages climb the mountain. Although the trip is very difficult, the religious and cultural values of the holy country are the driving force behind the pilgrims on this journey
Then they bathe from morning to night in frozen cold water, they worship the water and meditate in front of the lake.
