The hanging pagoda or Huyen Khong monastery was built on the cliffs of Hang Son, Hon Nguyen district, Son Tay province. This is the most famous sight in the area. According to many records, the temple was built in 491, in the Northern Wei period, by a monk named Liao Ran. The back is leaning against a concave cliff and the face faces a valley

The temple has a total area of about 125 m2, length 32 m and divided into 3 main parts, including 40 rooms.



The southern part was built into 3 floors, including the worship room Thuan Nguyen, Tam Quan and Loi Am. The northern part includes the worshiping room of the Five Buddhas, Guan Yin and Tam Giao. Experts have assessed that temple construction techniques are very creative and difficult to implement, even when modern technology develops today. The builder of the pagoda made horizontal holes deep in the cliffs, then pierced the wooden handles (crossbeams) in. Next is fixing the planks, pillars to the crossbeams, and then finishing the frame and roof. All wooden racks are soaked in Tung oil (a plant in China named Vernicia fordii), to resist moisture and corrosion.

In the temple there are 80 works carved from copper, iron, earthenware and stone. Including the Buddha Shakyamuni, Confucius and Lao Tzu. The clay statues in the Tam Quan worship room in the south are precious works from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The hanging pagoda is about 65 km from Dai Dong city. In the city, visitors can take a train or bus to Ho Nguyen district. From here, take bus number 8 or taxi to the monastery.
