Rinchen Chhering has been working at the post office since its inception in 1983 At that time, he was only 22 years old, and was hired as a fast runner and bicycle man.



The work here is very difficult, the post offices are often closed in winter because the snow is too heavy. Every day, two postmen have to walk 46 km through high passes and slippery meadows to deliver mail to the town of Kaza. From Kaza, the mail is sent by bus across the rugged mountain road. And the letters sent to the valley will be delivered by the postman walking back to Hikkim village. With the enchanting landscape of snow-capped peaks, the path that postal workers walk every day is unique compared to any other courier journey.
The villages that the Hikkim post office sent letters to were sparsely populated, with weak telephone waves and no internet access. One of them is the village of Komic located at an altitude of 4,587 m It is one of the tallest villages on Earth that can be accessed by road.
