Pamukkale Lake, or Cotton Castle in Turkish, is a natural geological area, located in the south of the Aegean region, about 20 km from Denizli city and about 2.5 hours drive from the tourist town of Kusadasi. The area is formed from geothermal springs, on a cliff about 200 m high, overlooking the Cürüksu plain. Over thousands of years, calcium carbonate in the water stream was deposited in the form of mineral rocks, forming white limestone cliffs

It has a total of 17 hot springs, with temperatures from 35 - 100 degrees Celsius The seashell-shaped lowlands are supplied with water from here, forming natural pools with blue water.

The story is that, in the past, there was a young girl who could not marry because of her ugly appearance. So she decided to commit suicide and jumped down from a limestone cliff into a lake but did not die. After that, she suddenly became beautiful with smooth, rosy skin. With its health and beauty benefits, Pamukkale Lake has become a tourist attraction since the 2nd century BC, before the spa town of Hierapolis was built around hot springs.
Until the 1980s, Pamukkale was a popular destination with domestic tourists. So the local government began to market and develop the place as a wellness center, attracting international visitors. The surrounding motels were demolished to make the area more open. The paths up the slope are exploited into swimming pools for visitors to walk and soak.
Here, visitors can experience sitting in a hot air balloon or paragliding to see the sparkling lakes and the ancient city of Hierapolis from above.
