The Last Nomadic Tribe In Iran
With a population of 400,000, the Qashqai is the last nomadic tribe in Iran, still trying to preserve traditional traits such as grazing, hand-making wool. As part of the Turkic peoples of Central Asia during the 11th and 12th centuries, the Qashqai had a habit of nomadic life in the harsh deserts of southwestern Iran for hundreds of years.Wife Ghazal and Tarkkenaz lived Half a year in the village of Koohmare Sorkhi, about 50 km from Shiraz. Like so many Qashqai, they do not accept to give up their traditional way of life but continue to live like their fathers for hundreds of years. For 30 years teaching Farsi to the tribal children, Ghazal believes that this work is very important to preserving Qashqai's identity and independence

Meanwhile, the developed urban centers are invading their farming areas. However, the nomadic lifestyle created strong solidarity within the tribe. Madina, Ghazal's aunt, lost her husband a few years ago, but she is always supported by her family. Today, Madina is still migrating with them across Iran and realizes that this way of life cannot be given up. The Qashqai cannot live without livestock because they are the basic condition for their survival. This tribe uses goat milk for drinking, cheese making and meat for daily consumption, but they also sell baby goats to buy other essentials. However, more and more Qashqai people are abandoning their farms to live in cities

The Qashqai people are also very famous for their handicrafts, especially carpets and wool products named "Shiraz". Wool produced in the mountains and valleys near Shiraz is softer, more beautiful in color than wool from other parts of Iran. Today, Tarkkenaz and the women in her family still make traditional wool products, selling to many of the regular merchants. Qashqai youth often find themselves stuck in the middle of a desire to approach a modern lifestyle. with the maintenance of national identity. In the picture is Mohammed Reza (left) with friends. As the youngest son of Ghazal and Tarkkenaz, about to complete his military service, Reza wants to study mechanics to open the garage. While Reza's brother has moved to another town to open groceries.

As a result, the Ghazal and his wife have difficulty hiring someone to take care of their herd, a traditional wedding in Koohmare Sorkhi, and the Qashqai still make use of the festivities to gather together and perform dances. Although the Muslim customs of weddings and funerals remain, very few Qashqai people observe daily prayer rituals and during the Muslim month of Ramadan. The nomadic lifestyle allows them to preserve tribal identity. Pictured is Azal, Ghazal's brother with the traditional Qashqai hat, the Qashqai people are very proud of their traditional customs and culture. However, Ghazal, like the others, feared that it would be difficult to convince the younger generation to continue maintaining the tribal life.. .
