The Shaolin Flying Monks Theater is where the Shaolin monks fly in midair.
Shaolin Temple, one of the largest Buddhist and Kung Fu academies in the world, owns a theater with a beautiful arcaded stage called The Shaolin Flying Monks Theater. Completed in 2017, the theater stands on a steep slope covered with cypress trees on the Tung Son mountain range in Henan province, one of China's five sacred mountains.
The architects are inspired by two sacred symbols of the land where the Shaolin sect was born: mountains and forests. Therefore, the theater appears like a mountain, symbolizing the horizon on Earth, and the wind tunnel like a giant rising to the sky - representing the spiritual dimension

The secret to the Shaolin monks flying here lies at the core of the building: where there is a wind tunnel. Outside are the stairs not merely adorn the building; which has terrain for the main part of the stage, surrounding the wind tunnel designed like a giant.
The wind tunnel engine room is located below the stage, with technology developed by wind tunnel manufacturer Aerodium that can generate the airflow going straight into the wind tunnel and regulated by the operator Thanks to that, after flying up, the airflow is adjusted so that the person can return to the previous position.




The space inside and outside the theater is about 300 square meters wide, with this stand with 230 seats. Every week, visitors can watch the performances of the Shaolin monks here. If you dare take risks or want to experience a sense of calm in the middle of the air, you can also fly in the tunnel.
“The building is a combination of both ancient and modern construction techniques. The laser-cut steel superstructure supports hand-shaped steps, mined from the local quarry, ”said Latvian architect Austris Mailītis.
The building is near Shaolin Temple, also located on the Tung Son range. The entire monastery grounds have been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, also considered the cradle of Zen Buddhism and kungfu martial arts
