Ankle Sprains: What You Should And Shouldn’t Do
Injury to the ankle is common in sports as well as in everyday life, most often the ankle is flipped over to the side, also known as a "flipped shirt", when a doctor is often diagnosed is the ankle sprain. Severe sprain (Grade III): The tendon is completely broken, the whole ankle is swollen and very painful
This level requires active treatment to fully recover, which can last up to 12 weeks.
Improper initial management will lead to chronic pain and loose ankles, which is difficult to treat.
The treatment should not be:
- Massaging hot oil: additional swelling
- Manipulation: extra bleeding, extra tearing
- Herbal pack: skin infection
- Going back and forth running too early: the ligament does not heal
- Injecting medicine into lesions: it will heal longer
The treatment should do:
- Immediately after injury, take a break immediately. Then use an ice pack to apply pain to the area for 10 minutes, 3-4 times a day, bandage the ankle and lift it up.
- If there is a lot of painful swelling of the ankles (Grade II or III sprains), a specialist should be seen.
Use common painkillers such as paracetamol or other types of pain relief and anti-swelling.
