Recent research suggests that eating egg yolks may increase the risk of atherosclerosis almost by smoking. Surveying more than 1200 patients, Dr. David Spence (Schulich University College of Medicine, Canada) found that eating more egg yolks will form atherosclerotic plaques, one of the factors causing stroke and myocardial infarction.

Results showed that after age 40, the amount of atheroma of a patient will increase with age. However, if the patient smokes or eats egg yolks, the amount of atherosclerosis will increase many times. In other words, smoking increases your risk of atherosclerosis by age-smoking.
The study also found that those who ate three to four egg yolks a week had more plaque than those who ate only two or fewer yolks.
If two eggs are consumed per week, the patient's atherosclerotic plaque will have an area of about 125-129 mm². Meanwhile, the area of atheroma in those who eat 3 eggs a week will be around 132-142 mm²
Spence adds that the effect of eating eggs daily on atherosclerosis is not related to sex, cholesterol, blood pressure, mass index, smoking habits and diabetes.
